New Vacuum Products Strengthen Alcatel’s Market Presence
Continued product innovation has enabled Alcatel Vacuum Technology to forge ahead with its strategy of further strengthening its position in the automotive, packaging, instrumentation, and coating markets in 2001.
OEM sales of the easy-to-integrate ASI 20 MD helium leak detector in the automotive industry exceeded 200 units in the first year since it’s launch in 2000. ‘This success clearly shows the confidence that automotive component suppliers have in Alcatel’s technology and experience as a pioneer in this field’ said J.P.Deluca (Director of sales in USA). ‘The ASI 20 MD is ideally suited for easy integration into any leak detection system, including hard vacuum and sniffing tests. It requires minimum space and provides maximum flexibility because its flat control and display panel can be sited up to 150 meters (500 feet) from the electronic module.’
Annecy, France-based Alcatel’s position in the packaging sector, has been reinforced through an alliance through a distribution contract with Leak Detection Associate The US company specialises in qualifying packaging for the food and pharmaceuticals industries using helium tracer gas. Alcatel’s helium gas detector technology enables the company to measure the porosity of packaging, non-destructively. This enables manufacturers better control of elements in the sealing process such as temperature and pressure, and to ensure that packaged products remain untainted.
Alcatel has also been able to leverage its expertise in fields such as semiconductors to increase its presence in both the instrumentation and coating industries – identifying customer need and providing proven solutions. ‘In the coating industry, in particular, Alcatel has been able to develop novel and innovative solutions using advanced computer simulation techniques, ‘ said J.L.Rival (Applications and New Concepts manager for Industrial markets) .
In the instrumentation field, Alcatel offers its customers expertise in the following areas:
Vibration; thermal and fluid dynamics, chemical compatibility and acoustic analysis
Primary, rotary vane and dry pumps; conventional and maglev turbomolecular pumps, and devices for measuring and recording vacuums.
In coating, Alcatel provides expertise and products for high and low pressure depositing in LPCVD; PECVD; PVD and HDPCVD applications. Alcatel offers knowledges transfer in areas such as soft pumping and venting; testing critical elements including materials, and in maintenance.
Alcatel has also developed sophisticated computer simulation techniques for:
Measuring gas voiding times in process chambers
Dynamic control of partial pressures
Roots devices [dispositifs originaux?], soft venting and soft pumping
Tracing effluents
Leak detection
‘Because of their performance at all levels of vacuum and their low cost of ownership, Alcatel’s vacuum products are now being used in a growing number of applications in an ever wider range of industries,’ G.Baret commented.
